Climbing the PDC Order of Merit
The handsome amount of £15,000 top prize launches Van den Bergh three places up to seventh in the PDC Order of Merit list. He admitted to struggling a bit during the last two games, making his win all more astonishing.
An Unexpected Win
He said that “I am relaxed; this is so crazy. I’ve never really been in this position all day ever. I’ve been fighting and fighting, I’ve been battling, I never give up. I’m playing into the 90s averages constantly with good scoring, checkouts. Then suddenly, my last two games, and that’s the super crazy part, the semi-finals and final, I played an 87 average, but still I’m standing here as the winner. So what can I say, I’m buzzing. It’s been a while, and I didn’t expect to win this way,” said Van den Bergh.
The Bizarre Final
“This was just a really weird final in every way possible. He thought that these are one of those wins that you can attribute to experience, time playing on the tour, and you’ll have a few wins like this. He had played a really good tournament before he got to the semi-finals. But the semi-finals until now, it wasn’t really fantastic. He wanted to do better. he says that But I’m standing here, and I’m definitely chuffed about winning it, but I’m in disbelief. I’m not understanding how this happened.”
Joy Amidst Confusion
Despite his confusion, Van den Bergh finds joy in his victory, sharing a heartfelt message with his ‘missus’ and family. “Today, how can you not take joy out of this? Yesterday I played a good game and was struggling in the way I’m experiencing life. Life can be really good, and it can be really tough. But it’s about trying to work your way in between; it’s a path you’re trying to follow. Whatever I’m doing is working. Hard work pays off.”
A Note on the World Cup of Darts
One aspect he is not focused on the World Cup of Darts. Kim Huybrechts returned this weekend with a good 100 average weeks after a serious injury. Van den Bergh reiterated they are not friends and has no clarity on the partnerships so far. “I wasn’t interested in any of that. Everybody needs to know that Aer we best friends? But let me clarify I and Kim are not the best of friends, and that’s period. I always love to play for my Belgian nationality, but so far, right here, right now, I have no idea what’s going on.
The PDC hasn’t confirmed anything yet towards my management or me. But what has been confirmed today is I’ve won my third Players Championship tournament.”
Van den Bergh’s triumph is a testament to perseverance and resilience, a tale of unexpected victory that defies the odds.
